Accommodation @ Salford University
Since this is a blog aimed at prospective international students, accommodation is a fairly important subject and I am here to tell you everything about it. YAY !
To start off, I want to tell you that you probably have a guaranteed spot in halls (except iQ student quarter) as the University guarantees accommodation for first year undergraduates and postgraduates (provided you apply by 1 September)
The University of Salford promises to offer the following with all the uni and partner accommodations:
- A protected environment
- Help at hand
- No utility bills or hidden costs
- Contents insurance included
- Free and unlimited internet access
- membership to the Tom Husband Leisure Centre
Before going into detail, here is what types of accommodation you can find at Salford (maximum distance from main campus – approximately 10 minutes of walk):
- Single study bedrooms
- One bedroom flats
- Two or three bedroom family houses and flats
- Adapted rooms and facilities for students with disabilities or additional requirements
Now, onto the juicy stuff:
Horlock Court (£69.50 pw):
Horlock court is centrally located on campus next to the bank and the shop. The library and leisure centre are a short walk away.
- Twelve bedroom houses on campus
- All bedrooms have a washbasin
- Quieter accommodation available
- Car parking (limited availability)
Constantine Court (£83.00 pw):
Right next to Horlock, it offers the same advantages regarding positioning. The big plus is that it has en-suite rooms.
- Thirteen bedroom houses on campus
- All rooms have en-suite washbasin, toilet and shower
- Quieter accommodation available
- DDA kitchen with fully adjustable worktops
Castle Irwell Student Village (£59.50 - £67.50 pw):
Castle Irwell Student Village is part of a mixed use accommodation and sports complex, and is just over one mile from the Allerton and Peel Park campuses.
- Eleven bedroom houses or six bedroom flats
- All bedrooms have a washbasin and a vanity unit
- Quieter accommodation available
- The Lounge Social Room with flat screen TV and Xboxes
Bramall Court (£69.00 - £74.00 pw):
Bramall court is situated a short distance from the Adelphi Campus and less than one mile from the main University campus at Peel Park. it is easy to walk to Manchester from this location.
- Two, three of four bedroom flats
- Choice of room sizes: standard, large and extra large
- Large social and games room
- Resident Life Programme with a large range of fun activities
Matthias Court (£69.00 - £74.00 pw):
Matthias court is situated a short walk fro Adelphi Campus and less than one mile from the main University campus at Peel Park. This accommodation is exclusively for postgraduates and couples. Additional family accommodation is also available here.
- Two, three or four bedroom flats
- Choice of three room sizes: standard, large and extra large
- Large social and games room
- Free car parking
John Lester and Eddie Coleman (£79.50 - £85.00 pw):
John Lester and Eddie Coleman courts are situated a short walk from the Allerton building and the Mary Seacole building on the Allerton campus. These flats are extremely popular with students studying nursing and health-related courses.
- Two, three of four bedroom flats
- Large social and games room and gym available with SkyTV
- Limited free car parking
- Residential Life programme with a large range of fun activities
iQ Student Quarter (£83.00 - £95.00 pw):
Accommodation is close to the Allerton campus and is newest accommodation with 541 en-suite rooms.
- All bedrooms are en-suite
- Four, five and six bedroom flats
- Deluxe bedrooms (a larger bedroom with a four foot bed)
- Each flat has a kitchen and a lounge
Waterside Village (£137.00 - £145.00 pw):
A limited number of two and three bedroom houses are available at Waterside Village. Families will have their own house with two or three bedrooms, lounge, kitchen and bathroom facilities. There are also open plan communal gardens which offer additional space for children under parental supervision.
- Free campus bus which stops on Seaford Road
- Membership of the Tom Husband Leisure Centre
- Out of hours support from the Residential Support Officers
Whew ! That is quite a long list !
Before taking a decision, please consider the following:
- Location
- En-suite or not
- Contract length
- Making friends
- Quieter accommodation
- Bringing a car
- Budget
- Local students
Even though I strongly recommend using University accommodation, there is the option of private accommodation. For more info visit either Manchester Student Homes or Salford City Council.
